Custom Engagement Ring Design Process
Once you have begun to curate the ideas you want in your custom engagement ring look – our experts are standing by to bring your vision to life.
You will start by working with one of our designers, who will begin with a sketch – using your drawings, inspirations, and configurations from our ring designer tool – to start creating the overall design of your one-of-a-kind engagement ring.
You will also work with our on-staff gemologists, who will be there every step of the way to offer guidance on selecting the stones that are right for your engagement ring based on your design concepts. Richter & Phillips has the largest loose diamond collection in the Midwest and thousands of other gemstone options to help you fully customize your ring.
Once you have finalized your engagement ring specifications with our designers and gemologists, we then utilize a three-step process to build your engagement ring and bring your idea to reality.
Step One: CAD (Computer-Aided Design)
The first step in our engagement ring creation process is to create a CAD drawing of your ring. This rendering will allow you to see your custom-designed engagement ring in 3D for the first time.
Step Two: Wax Model
Once you are satisfied with the design of your engagement ring, a wax model will be made. When your wax model is ready, you will be able to touch and feel your custom engagement ring for the first time. The wax model step will help you get a better feel for the final product, and assure that everything is coming to life as you imagined. At this stage, any further adjustments can easily be made to your engagement ring before finalizing your ring design.
Step Three: Final Structure
Once you have finalized the details and made any changes necessary to your wax model, we use the wax model to cast the piece’s final structure using the metal that you have picked for your engagement ring in the design process. After your engagement ring has been cast in metal, we will set the stones into the ring setting and apply a brushed or polished finish. At this point, you can also choose to further customize your ring with an engraving – such as a special date or message.
Protecting & Caring For Your Custom Engagement Ring
You’ve got your ring designed and built – all that is left is for you to use your new stunning custom engagement ring to pop the question to your loved one. However, there are a couple of items to consider when thinking about the future care and protection of your engagement ring.
